Digital x-rays are necessary to identify potential dental and medical problems such as gum disease, bone loss, strokes, heart disease, infection, and many other issues. In-office salivary DNA and genetic susceptibility testing allow your dentist to identify problems that you won’t find at home with a toothbrush and a bathroom mirror!
What Involved in a Visit?
During these visits Dr Collins will take an x-rays using an intraoral camera to allow you to see what’s happening inside of your mouth.
Diamond Dental Team will inspect every area of your mouth including the teeth, gums, tongue, lips, and jaw joint to detect early signs of common oral health issues such as gum disease, tooth decay, oral cancer, and TMJ. When detected early on, these things can often be effectively treated through minimally invasive techniques.
Exam, X-Ray and Cleaning
X-rays are essential in dentistry, because they allow us to see what’s happening inside your teeth and below/above the gum line. With x-rays we can see plaque or decay that otherwise might be invisible, as well as being able to check that the roots of your teeth are healthy and strong.
And again, x-rays provide us with records that help us track changes in your mouth so we can see how problems evolve.
Should I be worried about radiation?
No, dental x-rays are very low radiation. In fact, you’re exposed to less radiation during a dental x-ray than you are exposed to during a normal sunny day outside. The only exception to this is if you could be pregnant, so be sure to let us know if this is a possibility.
